Getting to know Ro
Hi Peeps,
Hope you have all been doing well. Do you have a goal or current project you are working on? I do!
I am currently completing a Masters. In what you may ask? Well, a Masters in Education (Teaching English as a Second Language). Why? Well, thanks for asking๐๐คฆ♀️.

I have sooooooo much respect for people who know more than one language. And even more respect for people who immigrate to a new country.
Just think about it for a moment:
- They leave the security of what they grew up with
- They leave family and friends
- They withdraw from the only culture they have ever know
- They are moving somewhere like Aus where we only speak English
- They will face daily racism
- Many many more points

I believe immigrants are some of the bravest people in the world. They deserve our respect for these 6 points alone. Immigrants want a better opportunity for their families. Now, whether it is a better opportunity is debatable as I believe community is the most important thing and we lack this in Aus. However, that is for another blog post.
If I can give back to immigrants or teach english overseas and this helps one person in a small way than I feel like I am doing something to make the transition a little easier.
There is a great program called AMEP. This is the link https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/settling-in-australia/amep/resources
You can volunteer with adult migrants to help them improve their English. You can go and help in classes or one on one situations. One on one is for people who can't get to classes because of sickness or family commitments. For example, I used to work with ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ from Brazil, mother of 3 with twins under one at home. Her husband worked full time in IT and she could not get to TAFE lessons. I believe ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ had good English but like most non native speakers she lacked confidence. We met at the local library for 1hr a week. That is right - 1hr a week of my time to give so much to this one person. Her goal was to sit the Australian Citizenship test.
I can hear you saying but I am not a teacher. You don't have to be a teacher. AMEP put you through an online training program and all you need to then do it basically talk to the person to help them improve their English. Win - Win
Sorry, Ro got her rant on!!
I am on track to finish my Masters this year๐๐. The end is in sight people!!!!

ChatGPT created this image - thanks for making me look masculine๐
Well, now you know a little bit more about Ro.
I would love to hear about your goal or projects.
If you don't have one then have some self care time and explore what is missing your life. You are more likely to achieve a goal if you write it down - just saying๐. And no I did not get that advice off Tiktok or Insta, it may have been Facebook.
Love Ro.
