My Arch Nemesis #1
Hi Peeps,
A few posts ago I mentioned moving close to my arch nemesis. I know you haven't been able to sleep waiting to find out ๐คท๐ผ♀️. Today, I am going to put you out of your misery.
In some contexts, an arch-nemesis can refer to a task or goal that a person struggles to achieve. And let me tell you, this task has broken me on occasions.
I finally feel I have conquered it and yet again it beats me. Just like any good enemy, Batman and the Joker, Tom and Jerry, Jerry and Newman. (I love how Jerry Seinfeld spits out Newman๐.
Drum roll please๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Sunnyside Road. Strava name - How do you like your eggs??๐ฅน๐
Looking at this image you are like, why is Ro complaining about 0.31metres. Ro is ๐คช. I challenge you to come and try it yourself.
This is a hill in Scarborough, yes Scarborough does have a hill, just like Margate has King St. Over the years, I have crawled, walked, jogged and run up and down this hill. I am being serious!!
The worst time in our relationship was during my marathon training. My run coach decided I needed to do hill repeats most weeks. Not sure what a hill repeat is - it is when you run 1/4 of the way up the hill and back down, 1/2 way and back down, 3/4 and back down and all the way to the crest (top) and back down. You don't do this once - see the word REPEAT. You do this until you have reached 5 - 10km depending on the session.
My absolute, worst experience was doing hill repeats on a 38 degree day and swallowing down my vomit as it tried to come up and out๐คข.
My best experiences is running it with others. Especially Rhonda, who knows what a battle this hill is and also my ๐๐๐. ๐๐๐ like running, or were coherced to join me on occassions.
My proudest time is multiple times when I was going to give up or run another route and miss Sunnyside deliberatley but I was strong and actually ran the hill.
It was probably the hardest part of my marathon training. My official time for the marathon was 4hrs 47mins, my Strava time for the marathon was
9 mins is a huge difference! I tell everyone the official time.
One of the reasons I wanted this house sit was to train on Sunnyside for my upcoming Nepal hike. I was so excited but my injuries, due to the car accident, have thrown me off schedule. I have walked it a few times but the one time I ran it, I felt so sick afterwards with pain from my whiplash.
My first attempt back felt like a scene out of a movie, with the western music in my head. The Hill and I tipped our hats at each other, turned and took our 10 paces. The Hill is still winning, but by the end of this house sit I am determined to fire the fatal blow and get rid of this nemesis forever.
One of my ๐'s is in training for a half marathon. So, so proud of her. I hope she pops over to do hill repeats with me one day.
Please come and try Sunnyside Road. Seriously, you will thank me when you tame this beast.
Finally, I think we should petition the local council to change the name to it's Strava name. I'll post the petition for you to sign when I get a chance ๐๐คช.
Love,
Ro
