Next stop - Scarborough (Redcliffe Peninsula)

Hi Peeps,

I have arrived in Scarborough. Did you guess my - Back to the Future - reference.

I moved to the Redcliffe Peninsula (Scarborough, Margate, Redcliffe, Kippa Ring, Woody Point, Clontarf) in 2002.

My finance (now ex husband) loved water. I loved QLD and wanted to return after living in Victoria for such a long time.

We came to visit my ex husband's family and he fell in love with the place. Me, I wanted to live in the city. Being the person I am, I gave in because I wanted him to be happy. My parents and brother decided to come also. How lucky was I!!

These are the places I have lived on the Peninsula:

  1. Woody Point - a rented unit. I used to travel to Greenslopes from there to work. Yep stupid.
  2. Scarborough - we bought our first home for $165k off J&L. The most beautiful couple, who became dear friends. They will get their own post.
  3. Scarborough again - same street but different number. We built an amazing house to raise πŸ™ˆπŸ™ŠπŸ™‰.
  4. Scarborough - back and forth to S&Ps house. They housed us when we were moving and after my separation and again now they have πŸ™ˆπŸ™ŠπŸ™‰ living there. I bet you love S&P as much as I do now!!
  5. Redcliffe - the home I made for my kids after separation but we had to move because of a bad situation.

So I am house sitting in Scarborough again - thanks to a kind teaching friend. Thanks⛷️⛷️ for letting me crash at your place.

There are no animals this time, just keeping the place tidy (mow lawns, clean pool, water plants, get the mail) whilst ⛷️⛷️ holiday.

Did I mention how lucky I am?

One of my house sitting rules is I have to get in the pool if they have one.

This is a video of me getting in the very chilly pool.

The street I am in is also my arch nemesis - more on that another time.

Why I love The Peninsula -

  1. My family lives here - S&P and Big Bro, 3πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’
  2. Great friends
  3. Great job and team mates at work
  4. Running or walking alone the waterfront
  5. Redcliffe markets
  6. Lagoon
  7. Great safe beaches for kids
  8. Easy access to airport and the City.
  9. Many more.

I raised my children in Scarborough. We have been part of the local schools, Park Run, Redcliffe Tigers AFL.

Some of my best memories are watching πŸ™ˆπŸ™ŠπŸ™‰ participating in sport. Even if I had to drive them to Noosa or Kingscliff for a game. Come on QAFL, who makes you drive over 100km for a game. However, you know me, I love my kids, so I did it. Sometimes we had weekends away which was great.

Another thank you S&P moment, they have driven my kids all over the state, come to watch a zillion games of barying sports πŸ‰⚽️πŸπŸ‘―‍♀️πŸ›ŸπŸƒπŸƒ‍♀️and they never say No. It takes a village people.

If you have never visited The Peninsula make a day of it. Come to the markets on a Sunday from 8am, walk along Bee Gees Way, bring your swimmers and swim in the ocean and the lagoon.

Also follow https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1Ma9y6Frg5/?mibextid=wwXIfr. This is a community facebook page about The Peninsula. The laughs I get from this page are amazing. Don't steal Gloria's thongs again, from her door step, she is waiting with her cricket bat. I know Gloria left them somewhere but because she saw a person of colour in her street, she assumed it was them. I have told you before Aussies are racist.

I walk the waterfront a lot. It is therapeutic to be in nature and exercising. I am seeing lots more nationalities arriving in Redcliffe. Thank goodness. We can stop being called Deadcliffe, where the old white people go to retire. That is now BribieπŸ˜†.

The Peninsula is now an official CityπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. The Moreton Bay City Council has done well but they need to rethink the plan for 15 hotels. Really? We are not the Sunny Coast.

You know I don't care about houses. The thing that brings me back here (I have so many bad experiences here in the last few years) is my people. To everyone I know on The Peninsula - thanks for the memories - I love you.

Ps - come to Redcliffe on 22 June. There is a free fun run (oxymoron). You can also walk, then go to the market for breakfast and have a icy swim (it is good for your vagus nerve, I know, I have researched this in my mental health quest). We are raising money for the Palliative Care unit at Redcliffe Hospital. If you can't make it, please donate. https://www.reddyfunrun.org.au/event/reddy-fun-run-5k/donate

Rhonda on the far right, is the super 🌟who donates her time every year to the annual run she created. I help her because I love her. She is one of the reasons I ❤️ Redcliffe.

Goooooooo RedcliffeπŸ’•

Love,

Ro.
